We are looking for a hands-on Commerce Architect to design and oversee our highly scalable e-commerce infrastructure on AWS. You will bridge the gap between complex business requirements (merchandising, checkout, inventory) and cloud-native technical solutions. You will own the architectural roadmap for our commerce platform, ensuring high availability, security (PCI-DSS), and performance during peak traffic events. Key Responsibilities:
- Architectural Strategy: Design and maintain a cloud-native architecture using AWS services (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, EKS, CloudFront) to support high-volume transaction processing.
- Commerce Integration: Lead the architectural design for integrating our commerce engine with third-party systems, including ERPs, PIMs, OMS (Order Management), and Payment Gateways (Stripe/Adyen/PayPal).
- Performance & Scalability: Architect solutions for "bursty" traffic (e.g., product drops, holiday sales), utilizing auto-scaling, caching strategies (Redis/ElastiCache), and CDNs.
- Security & Compliance: Ensure all architecture complies with PCI-DSS standards, GDPR/CCPA, and general security best practices for handling sensitive customer financial data.
- Modernization: Drive the migration from monolithic architecture to a Headless/Composable Commerce approach (Microservices/API-first).
- Cost Optimization: Manage AWS budgets and implement FinOps best practices to optimize cloud spend.
- Experience: 7+ years in software engineering, with at least 3+ years specifically in Solution Architecture.
- AWS Expertise: Advanced knowledge of the AWS ecosystem. AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional) preferred.
- Commerce Domain: Proven experience building or maintaining large-scale e-commerce platforms (e.g., commercetools, Shopify Plus, Adobe Commerce/Magento, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, or custom builds).
- Experience with Microservices and API design (REST/GraphQL).
- Strong understanding of Containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or CloudFormation).
- Data & Database: Experience designing schemas for both relational (RDS/Aurora) and NoSQL (DynamoDB) databases in a commerce context.
- Experience with event-driven architecture (Kafka, EventBridge, SQS/SNS).
- Background in retail, logistics, or supply chain technology.
- Experience with frontend frameworks (React/Next.js/Vue) to understand the full stack requirements of a Headless setup.
- Communication: Ability to explain complex architectural decisions to non-technical stakeholders (Product Managers, Merchants).
- Leadership: Mentoring senior engineers and conducting code/design reviews.
- Pragmatism: Ability to balance "perfect architecture" with business deadlines and budget constraints.
